The SS of Helenvale Congregation enjoyed their winter school programme from Tuesday, 18 June to

Saturday, 22 June 2019. The holiday programme for Helenvale took place in the church hall and grounds. The programme kicked off with a day of arts and crafts. Each child designed their own invitation for the Friendship Service to be held in September, which they would deliver to a friend.

On the second day, the children were taught about the importance of preserving the environment and taking care of God’s creations. They proceeded to clean the churchyard and surroundings by picking up litter. In addition, they learnt that their bodies, too, are God’s creations and the importance of maintaining personal hygiene.

The third day involved music. They played games, such as musical chairs and a “Bright and Beautiful” version of the popular television show “Noot-vir-Noot”.

On the Friday, the fourth day, the children enjoyed a movie. They ate popcorn and other snacks, while watching a number of movies.

The week was concluded with a Master Chef Junior Competition on the Saturday morning. The children who were divided into groups, had to make potjiekos. The ministers came to join in on the fun and the competition was judged by the Rector, Shepherd E Chetty.

The week was an exciting opportunity for the children to spend their holiday, making friends and memories, learning lessons and having a whole lot of fun!
