Rectors of Kuilsriver and Stellenbosch Bishop areas, part of the area of Apostle Kriel, gathered at Oppie See from 22 to 24 March 2019.

The rectors arrived on Friday afternoon at “Oppie See” resort in Melkbosstrand and started their fires. Very soon about 12 potjies were simmering for the potjie-kos competition of the evening. By 20:00 the pots were ready to be presented. In the end all the pots were winners as there were no leftovers. Fun and games, “klawerjas” and dominoes followed,  accompanied by Karaoke. The excitement in some dormitories could be heard in the early morning hours.

On the Saturday, after a hearty breakfast, the conference started, focusing on the pastoral aspects, liturgy and homiletics. The well-prepared presenters, including the Apostle Kriel and Bishops Ravell and Norman enlightened the delegates with pertinent information that will now be filtered down to all ministers. After the conference, the brothers took a walk on the beach to allow all the information to be absorbed into their hearts and minds.

The highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly the divine service. The Apostle used 2 Timothy 2:15 as the basis for the sermon. What was evident at the service was the practising of homiletics and liturgy that were presented the previous day. The rectors showed their willingness to learn the recorder and their performance was of such a high standard that an encore was called.

One of the main outcomes of this conference was the close relationships that were formed amongst the rectors. Hugs and well wishes were evident as they embarked on their departure. The fact that this was also the Apostle’s last meeting with the rectors before his retirement, made this extra special for all.
