On Sunday, 2 June 2013, Korsten Congregation in Port Elizabeth served as the host to a special divine service conducted by District Apostle N Barnes for Arcadia Bishop Area.

This was a particularly special occasion, as various acts of blessing were scheduled to take place during the service and significantly two long serving ministers were placed into retirement. A fond farewell was said to the District Evangelist J Gustafson and Community Evangelist S Januarie, in the presence of the congregation and their families. Together the two ministers had served for 62 years in various ministries. A short biography of each minister was presented with the opening of the broadcast, outlining their ministerial activity in the service of the Lord. At the time of them being placed into well-deserved retirement they received a most sincere thanks from the District Apostle for their sacrifices and those of their families. The two retiring ministers also stood as proxy for the serving of the Departed.

In the light of the retirements and the development of the Church in the region the need for ministers in the Lord’s service was clear. One district rector and three priest rector helpers were appointed to care for the brothers and sisters of the area.

The NAC-TV crew who was responsible for the broadcast reported that all service points received a disturbance free transmission. The service was also televised to outlaying service points not easily accessible by ministers. This included a refugee camp in Namibia near the Angolan border.

Much joy has been expressed by all those who experienced the divine service.
