District Apostle Barnes served the congregations of Heathfield and Plumstead in the Claremont church on Sunday 11 January 2015.
The basis for the sermon was 1 Peter 4:12-13 “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you: but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy”.
The District Apostle reminded the congregation of the motto provided by the Chief Apostle for 2015: Joy in Christ. Despite the many fiery trials we encounter, we always want to rejoice in Jesus Christ for our joy in Christ is a good indicator of our spiritual maturity.
District Elder E Adams and Shepherd G Martin were used as vessels to receive Holy Communion on behalf of the departed souls. At this time the pioneers of the congregations of Heathfield and Plumstead were specifically called into remembrance with great fondness. The serving of Holy Communion was concluded with a solo clarinet rendition of “Beautiful Glorious Zion”.
The District Apostle then bestowed the Golden wedding blessing on retired District Elder G Atwood and his wife, Olga. In his address he shared some of the special moments he had experienced with this couple over the years. He also thanked them for their continued involvement in the Lord’s work: Olga being an integral part of the Golden Voices and the retired District Elder still holding Bible classes for members at his home.
The choir concluded the divine service on a festive note “Glorious is Thy Name”, and there was great rejoicing in the hearts of everyone.
