In accordance with National Women’s Day (9 August) and International Youth Day (12 August), the #Dare2Care weekend aims to entertain the young people, along with members who are willing to join in the fun, while informing all participants about relevant topics pertaining to these special days.
The young people’s workgroup also aims to emphasise the Church’s stand against gender-based violence and raise funds for the Masakhe Foundation.
The #Dare2Care weekend kicked off on Friday evening. Host Whiren van Niekerk welcomed all the viewers to the live broadcast and introduced the band who performed live at the Silvertown Auditorium. Before the start of the virtual concert, District Apostle J Kriel used the opportunity to welcome all viewers to the historical first-ever virtual weekend for young people. The original plan was for the young people to meet in the Eastern Cape for some activities. However, due to the impact of COVID-19 and national lockdown regulations, the proposed weekend had to be cancelled. Despite this, it was decided that a fun-filled weekend could be enjoyed virtually by young people.
After a brief introduction to the plans for the weekend, the District Apostle spoke about the importance of us taking a stand against gender-based violence, and in this regard, treat all women fairly and with the greatest respect. As a church, we want to take on this challenge and influence the rest of society to have the same attitude. He concluded by launching the #Notonmywatch stating that wherever we are, we want to prevent violence against women so that we don’t have to hear sad stories of abuse all the time. Together, we can do something to end gender-based violence.
After the District Apostle wished everyone a pleasant evening, Whiren then introduced some of the performers. The performances featured a range of vocal talents from around the region who performed a diverse range of praise and worship songs. The fresh and innovative style of the concert was a joy to behold, with thousands of viewers being able to enjoy the music concert from the comfort of their homes. And after many hours of hard work, the band concluded the evening by playing the popular YPiC theme song: In Him we live and move.
Please join us tomorrow at 9 am for the start of our virtual fun day.
You can also catch a repeat of the concert on the virtual platforms from 12:15 pm. (Friday 7 August #daretocare concert on YouTube)
