Their journey started in the final year of the previous Millenium when the Confirmation Class of 2014 saw the light of day.

Throughout childhood they were taught the fundamentals of Christian life, thereby preparing them for the day when they will take responsibility for their salvation. This day was announced earlier in the year. But when the congregation of Protea Park heard that the District Apostle N Barnes planned to serve them on Confirmation Day the confirmands in particular could not suppress their joy. For this Class of 2014 it would be a crowning moment when their district apostle would dispense their confirmation blessing.

Sunday, 4 May 2014 could not come soon enough. The day was perfect; all the preparations were in place. The service started with the singing of hymn 463 in the New English Hymnal. The heartfelt rendition of the various verses embodied the future journey of the children to be confirmed. The word for the day pointed to God’s instruction for eternal life. This prepared the way for the moment when the confirmands were called to the altar to take their final steps out of Sunday school. The reading of a letter from Chief Apostle Jean-Luc Schneider prepared the way for the confirmands to promise to give expression of their faith and align their lives to Jesus Christ. This was affirmed with a clear yes, where-after they endorsed their intentions by solemnly reciting the Confirmation Vow. The moment that they and their parents had long waited for culminated with the dispensing of the confirmation blessing by the district apostle.

They came to the service as children but left as newly confirmed youth. And the entire congregation shared in these defining moments of young adults to confidently continue their journey of faith.
